Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal has directed the concerned formations of the authority that the officers and officials deputed in Flood Relief Cell, would pay their duties with zeal, devotion round the clock as per their utmost professional skills during the monsoon season to cope with any untoward situation in case of natural calamities.

Afzal issued these directions during a meeting held at CDA Headquarters to review the arrangements made for the upcoming monsoon season.

On this occasion Member Administration and Estate, Amir Ali Ahmed, Member Environment, Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Member Engineering, Shahid Sohail, Director General Civic Management, Director General Services, Director Emergency and Disasters Management, Roads, Sanitation, Municipal Administration, Environment, Maintenance, City Sewerage Division, MPO and Health Services were also present.

Civic Management Director General Nadeem Akbar Malik was designated as Flood Relief Cell chief coordinator while Emergency and Disaster Management Director Abbas Ahmad Mir as Administrative Controller who will perform their responsibilities in the supervision of Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi.

Besides, the chairman directed Member Environment to designate one officer as focal person from different directorates, who will consistently coordinate with Flood Relief Cell of CDA.

The CDA chairman directed the Building Control Directorate to ensure availability of pumping system in the high rise buildings in the city. A warning through media to the citizens of Islamabad who are having basement in their houses be issued for disconnection of their illegal water, sewerage line to avoid flow of water in the basements, he added.

He also directed the concerned formations of the authority to remain vigilant and alert round the clock during the upcoming monsoon rains. He directed the officers of concerned formations to take all possible effective measures to cope with untoward incidents so that the lives and properties of the residents could be saved.

Afzal urged all formations of the authority for joint coordinated efforts during the monsoon. He directed for a detailed survey, especially in those areas of the city where flood may possibly cause devastation. He directed for a comprehensive plan in the light of the damages caused by floods in the past. He directed that all possible precautionary measures for the safety of public may be taken on priority. He directed for increase in number of patrolling teams during the monsoon season for delivering the information to Flood Relief Cell timely after taking notice of situation.

While slum dwellers of Sectors F-6, F-7/4, G-8/1, G-7/3, G-7/2, G-7/1 are being warned to remove their illegal structures from the sides of nullahs with immediate effect, CDA has also requested residents of the Federal Capital for removal of illegal sewerage connections linked to rain water pipelines as the accumulated rain water can damage their valuable properties.

The CDA chairman directed officers of Flood Relief Cell for cleaning of nullahs in the city on immediate basis so that the rain water could flow without any hurdle.

He appealed the residents of federal capital for their full cooperation with CDA and contact with the authority in case of any emergency situation.
