The United States has renewed its commitment to help Pakistan by offering to extend assistance for relief efforts for the internally displaced people from North Waziristan.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has made it clear that the current Pakistani forces’ action in NWA is “entirely a Pakistan-led and executed” operation.

Responding to a question, US State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf said, “We’ve long supported Pakistani efforts to extend their writ of government throughout their country and to increase internal stability.”

On the issue of IDPs, Harf said, “We are closely monitoring the situation, in coordination with the humanitarian community.”

“We stand ready to assist the IDPs in any way we can,” she said.
