Participants of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s organised All Parties Conference (APC) have expressed concern over the condition of IDPs in wake of the military offensive in North Waziristan.

The conference was held at KP Chief Minister House and was presided over by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. The APC was convened to discuss the ongoing crisis of NWA IDPs.

According to a joint statement issued after the conference, the federal government did not take the KP government and political parties onboard before launching the military offensive.

It stated that the ban on movement of IDPs to any part of the country is unconstitutional and demanded that the IDPs be allowed to travel at will.

It demanded that each IDP family be given Rs 50,000, FC personnel be removed from the province and traders be given special concession in taxes levied by the federal government.

According to the statement, participants of the conference said that the NWA operation should be logically concluded in the shortest possible time.

During the meeting, sacrifices rendered by personnel of law enforcement agencies in the war against terror were lauded and it was demanded that in order to alleviate the sufferings of the people of FATA and KP, these areas should be declared as ‘hard areas’.

The ongoing security challenges faced by the people of KP were also discussed.
