All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) Central Chairman Pervaiz Khan Khattak Saturday said that existing CNG policy was destroying the Rs 450 billion sector.

The CNG sector providing jobs and affordable transportation to tens of millions of people deserve better treatment by the policymakers, he said.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Pervaiz Khattak said that CNG industry had been reducing pollution, cutting oil import bill and clipping inflation but it had been subjected to harsh treatment.

He said prices of natural gas, electricity tariff, and taxes continue to sky rocket but the prices of the commodity has been kept suspended for one and a half years which was discrimination.

Khattak said the cost of doing business had increased substantially while retail price was stagnant which has pushed many CNG operators to bankruptcy.

Ogra is bound to review prices twice a year in July and January but it has failed to discharge duty, he said, stressing that a review is legal and moral right of the CNG sector.

The official inertia has been ruining the CNG sector which needs improved gas supply and justified retail prices, he said adding that CNG sector is being pushed to the wall to benefit few influential.
