PM tells Afghanistan to plug terrorists’ escape routes

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday urged the Afghan government to ensure that no terrorist fleeing the military offensive in North Waziristan Agency manages to find refuge on Afghan soil.

The PM made the demand during a meeting with Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta who called on Sharif on Thursday. Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Ateequllah Hatafmaal and Afghan Ambassador Janaan Musazai were also present at the meeting.

Sharif told Spanta that Pakistan expected Afghanistan’s full cooperation in sealing the escape routes of terrorists’ to ensure the success of the military operation currently underway in the NWA tribal region. He said that Pakistan wanted a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and would extend all possible cooperation in this regard.

Spanta expressed the hope that Pakistan’s operation against terrorists would be a success as terrorism is a common problem for both the countries and has inflicted much damage.

The Afghan official also held meetings with Army chief General Raheel Sharif at the GHQ and discussed the ongoing operation in the tribal areas.
