IHC justice shies away from the case as petitioner turns out to be his relative

Justice Athar Minullah of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has regretted hearing Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director (MD) Muhammad Malik’s case besides sending it to IHC Chief Justice Anwar Muhammad Khan Kansi.

Malik’s dismissal from service case came up for hearing before a two-member bench of IHC comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Athar Minullah Thursday.

Akram Sheikh, counsel for the petitioner, appeared in court and told the court that IHC’s single bench had removed his client from the post of PTV MD and the petitioner had filed an appeal before IHC against it.

Sheikh said it was not clarified in the IHC decision as to why his client was removed from his office nor has any copy been provided to him.

Justice Minullah told during the hearing that Muhammad Jamal Shah was also candidate for the post of PTV MD and he had discussed the case with him.

“The petitioner is also my relative, therefore I regret to hear the case. It is better that PTV MD case is sent to other bench,” he remarked.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till Monday.
