The Supreme Court (SC) has expressed dissatisfaction over the Interior Ministry’s report with regard to action against those accused in the anti judiciary campaign and has summoned a report within a week about the arrest of the accused.
A three-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Nasirul Mulk took up the anti-judiciary campaign case for hearing on Wednesday.
Justice Nasir said, “We don’t want a blank report. Tell us the outcome of this report. How many accused have been arrested and what guidance was given by them? Security personnel are present everywhere. Did they not spot anyone placing the banners?”
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said that the Interior Ministry’s reply is not satisfactory.
He said that the judiciary is not safe, adding “Is the state so helpless that anyone can enter the red zone and return after doing whatever he wills?”
Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Ahmad Saeed presented the report of the Interior Ministry in the court.
He made it clear that the government had suggested a safe city project with reference to security which was annulled by the SC.
He said that the Intelligence Bureau (IB)’s report is secret and is based on the progress made in the case.
The court remarked, “What progress is this that it has not been ascertained so far that how many accused were there and what action was taken against those involved in placing banners.”
The DAG said that efforts are underway to locate the prime accused. Two accused have been arrested and interrogated. He requested the court for one week’s time to take action against the culprits and give a report.
Justice Jawwad remarked, “It means we are not fully covered.”
The hearing of the case was adjourned till July 2.
