Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency on Tuesday protested against mismanagement in food distribution.
The protesters pelted stones at food points and blocked the Kohat-Bannu Road, demanding establishment of more points for early delivery of food. The security personnel resorted to aerial firing to control the protesters.
The World Food Programme (WFP) began distributing aid through a local aid group on Monday, but there was anger among refugees at long delays.
Mohammad Nazir Khan, a lawmaker from the region, said many people who should be receiving aid were having problems with registration and documents.
Local administration official Aurang Zeb said more food distribution points would be opened soon and the authorities would do all they could to help those in need.
Meanwhile, ISPR has reported that Army Engineers Division has been tasked to assist the civil administration of Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan for better management of IDPs. Troops of the Engineers Division have already reached Bannu.
Four relief goods delivery points have been established by Engineers Division at Bannu, where food items, medical care and cash amount as announced by federal government will be distributed among IDPs by the civil agency concerned.
A field medical hospital by Army Medical Corps is also being established at Bannu to provide medical relief.
IDP has an attested copy of the original letter.
Nasim questioned whether there is any law that authorises the premier to order the interior secretary to file a complaint. The interior secretary replied that he was not aware of any such SRO or law, but the prime minister, as chief executive, can order probe into any case.
“The PM has directed investigation into different cases, including the Karachi incident,” he said.
The secretary explained that the probe against Musharraf was also started on the PM’s order but he did not file the complaint.
He admitted that the lodging of a complaint regarding violation of Article 6 took seven years.
The federal government decided on December 12, 2013 to file a complaint on the report of a joint investigation team. No additional documentation was done after the complaint was filed.
The cross examination of the interior secretary will continue in the hearing of the trial on Wednesday.
