The construction approval has been accorded to a new dam Do Tara which aims at meeting the shortage of water supply to the residents of twin cities.

According to a city district government spokesman, the dam will be constructed at a few kilometres from Khanpur Dam in Jibri, Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A dam in natural form already exists alongside hills at the location. The lake of this dam will be located in Abbottabad. Planning has also been evolved to construct a power house to generate 200 to 500 watts of electricity.

The federal and provincial governments will provide funds for the construction of the dam which will be completed within a record period of one year.

A water supply pipeline will be laid from the dam to Jhangi Syedan Plant to supply water to Rawalpindi and Islamabad and the dam will meet the water requirements of the residents of twin cities for 25 years.
