Rana Sana’s resignation

Reference your report about resignation of Rana Sana, home minister and law minister Punjab and CM’s Personal Secretary Dr Tauqir, following atrocious police brutality in Model Town, Lahore, resulting in 11 citizens being killed. Justice must be done and those responsible, including senior police officers or members of political elite should be brought to justice.

The events in Model Town angered citizens of Lahore and those in the rest of the country who had voted for PML-N. It was met with revulsion for police, civil bureaucracy and political administration by the people of Punjab. They also showed their intolerance for the likes of Gullu Butt, who wasn’t though acting like the target killers and extortion collectors of urban Sindh, but still caused the same terror.

This country has faced numerous such tragedies, such as Ojhri Camp disaster, over 200 dead in bomb attack on Benazir Bhutto’s arrival in Karachi, planned killing of over 60 on 12 May in Karachi in presence of police by goons of a political party, burning alive of lawyers in Karachi, murder of Shia pilgrims in Balochistan and target killings of thousands in Karachi, but nobody had the moral courage to resign or was made to resign by their political bosses. As for Dr Tahir Qadri, he seems to be blinded by personal vendetta and enmity against Sharif family, with an open agenda for unconastitutional power transfer. Do Chaudhrys of Gujrat remember how chief justice of Pakistan and hundreds of lawyers and citizens of this country were subjected to torture and humiliation by police and goons from Gujrat, and how lifelong savings of thousands of widows were plundered?
