The long-delayed anti-measles campaign in Islamabad, which was to be carried out in June last year, will now be launched in August or first week of September this year.

This campaign was suspended last year due to shortage of funds. Under the campaign, anti-measles vaccine will be injected to 250,000 children between the age of six month and 10 years in the federal capital.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Director Health Services Dr Hassan Urooj said that the federal capital has been divided into 10 zones for the drive and vaccination will be carried out by setting up health centres in government hospitals, schools and clinics situated in each zone.

The director said they have shortage of six doctors, adding that number of centres would be increased with the availability of more doctors.

Dr Arooj said that they are taking extra care after the death of children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the anti-measles vaccine. He said injecting anti-measles needs special skill. It is relevant to mention here that 19 cases of measles have reportedly come to the fore so far in the federal capital during the current year.
