Sindh Inspector General of Police Iqbal Mehmood on Sunday directed police officials to prepare and implement fool proof security plan for Ramazan in order to maintain law and order situation and ensure safety of life and property of people.
The IG directed officials to improve intelligence gathering in crime-hit areas with the cooperation of Pakistan Rangers and other security agencies. He directed officials to ensure security of mosques, imambargahs and grounds where taraveh prayers would be offered in order to secure the lives of religious scholars and people.
He also called for consultation with religious scholars in pointing out security positions around the mosques and imambargahs and directed police officials to deploy plain-clothed security men along with the volunteers of the mosques and imambargahs around the prayer places.
He directed officials to obtain lists of all religious places within their jurisdiction and ensure effective patrolling around them.
He said that in order to ensure security of traders and people at industrial zones, shopping centers, bachat bazaars, banks and other public places, the police officers should ensure their presence in the area and frequently check deployment of the police personnel and brief policemen regarding their security duties.
The IG said that strict snap checking, patrolling and picketing system should be ensured in the city in order to implement orders against aerial firing and brandishing weapons. He also directed officials to accelerate action against absconders and other criminals through surveillance and reconnaissance.
Mehmood said that along with police commandos, special branch officials should also be deployed at sensitive installations, government offices, consulates, international food chains, airport, railway stations and other public places.
He directed DIG Traffic to devise an action for smooth traffic flow during Ramazan especially during peak hours.
