At least three suspected militants belonging to a banned militant were killed in an encounter with police during a search operation conducted on Sunday in Afghan Basti of Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area near the Super Highway.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir, Rao Anwar, confirmed that the operation was conducted in the area upon receiving a tip off about the presence of foreign militants, adding that the police raid team came under gun attack during the operation.
Police personnel returned the gunfire after which three suspected militants were killed, he added. The SSP said that 20 suspects including foreign militants were also taken into custody during the operation. However, six others managed to escape the security cordon.
