Minimising LDA’s control on cooperatives

Amendments in laws and by-laws are being proposed to remove undue control of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on cooperative housing societies.

Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Muhammad Iqbal Channar said this addressing a meeting of cooperative housing societies organised by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI)’s standing committee on cooperatives on Thursday.

FPCCI Punjab Regional Chairman SM Naseer, FPCCI’s Standing Committee on Cooperatives Chairman Capt (r) MA Farooqi, senior officials of LDA, WASA and Punjab Cooperatives Department, including Farrukh Hayat Pannu, Nisar Hassan Zaidi and representatives from different cooperative housing societies were also present.

The minister said the government wanted to make cooperative housing societies a strong, autonomous and effective institution through the amendments to enable them serve the masses in an effective way. He said the government would provide all-out assistance in resolving legitimate issues of cooperative housing societies.

Earlier, FPCCI’s Standing Committee Chairman MA Farooqi apprised the minister of different issues faced by cooperative housing societies.
