IESCO fails to recover Rs 26 billion from defaulters

Despite all the efforts made by the Ministry of Water and Power, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has failed to recover more than Rs 26 billion from the defaulters so far.

According to reports, 49 government and semi-government institutions have been issued final notices to pay their arrears in terms of electricity bills till June 23.

The reports said that the ministry has directed IESCO to recover the arrears from the defaulters without accepting any pressure, and to disconnect electricity of those who do not pay the bills within the deadline.

It is worth mentioning that Azad Kashmir government is defaulting over Rs25.17 billion, Parliament Lodges Rs19.7 million, Defence Ministry over Rs318.15 million, Chaklala Cantt Board Rs305.13 million, TMA Rawal Town Rs182 million, Rawalpindi Cantt Board Rs114.1 million Islamabad Police Rs38.9 million, Parliament House Rs4.9 million and Pak Secretariat is defaulting Rs28.2 million of IESCO. Other defaulters included PWD, Ministry of Housing and Works, Health Ministry, FIA, Balochistan House, Sindh House, National Highway Authority, Punjab Police and a hospital run by the federal government.
