The death toll of the Minhaj tragedy mounted to 12 as another boy who was critically injured in the Tuesday’s firing by Lahore Police in Model Town succumbed to his wound on Thursday.
Rizwan, a resident of Chakwal, who received gunshot injury at his back underwent a major operation but could not survive, as the bullet had reached his lung.
Meanwhile, the hospital administration declined to hand the body to the bereaved family, asserting that they have been strictly directed to deliver the body to none but police for certain procedure.
Having been denied the custody of their son’s body by the hospital, members of the bereaved family started protest at the hospital.
Talking to the journalists, the deceased Rizwan’s father said the hospital management turned down all their repeated appeals to give them their young son’s body, adding however that the hospital officials said they have been warned by police against delivering any dead body.
Rizwan’s father said the police wanted to get a post-mortem report of any of Model Town Tragedy victims as and when he succumbs to injuries at hospitals, adding that he does not want the post mortem of his son.
“I do not want the post mortem of my son, as I will be traveling a three to four-hour distance to my ancestral place in Chakwal,” the grieving father added.
