The Supreme Court (SC) has sought a comprehensive reply from the attorney general (AG) and all the four provinces till June 25 on transferring all cases registered against Geo TV Network across the country.

A three-member SC bench presided over by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja took up the case for hearing Wednesday.

Justice Khawaja remarked, “In my personal opinion the provincial high courts should be approached for transferring cases registered in all the four provinces. However, this is not my final opinion. Let the replies of the provinces come first. The petitioners are also not before us who have registered these cases all over the country.”

Geo TV’s counsel Akram Sheikh told the court that as many as 45 cases had been registered against Geo TV so far all over the country and this process was continuing.

Sheikh told the court that a Muslim made an idol and sold it out in India, following which 200 cases were registered against him. A decision on the case must be observed, he added.

The Geo TV’s counsel also requested the court to seek opinion from the AG and provinces over the matter.

Justice Khawaja suggested that the counsel could resort to high courts of respective provinces over the issue.

The court while seeking opinion from the provinces on transferring of cases adjourned the hearing till June 25.
