The Supreme Court (SC) has suspended Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s decision on debarring Mubashir Luqman from conducting program Khara Sach, aired on a private news channel, and allowed him to host the program.
A three-member bench of the SC, led by Justice Nasirul Mulk took up for hearing on Thurday, Luqman’s appeal plea against the IHC decision.
Advocate Irfan Qadir appeared on behalf of Luqman and took the plea that the high court had given the decision keeping in view general apprehensions rather than on the basis of available material and evidence.
He said this decision was tantamount to gagging the freedom of expression.
Article 19 of the constitution gives the right of freedom of expression to everyone, he said.
Qadri appealed that as the requisite evidence were not presented before the IHC, therefore, the decision be suspended and his client be allowed to host the program.
The court issued notices to Shuhada Foundation and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
