Opposition in Punjab Assembly on Wednesday staged protest over Model Town incident in which as many as eight people were killed and several injured when the police clashed with the protestors of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
The opposition members attended the session wearing black ribbons to record their protest. They said that bloodshed was carried out for 18 hours and terrorism was committed in police uniform.
The opposition sought the permission to debate the incident but Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal rejected the request after which ruckus started in the House.
The opposition and treasury members exchanged harsh words and shouted slogans against each other. Opposition members said that reports of any commission constituted for any incident in the past were never implemented and same would be repeated this time. They said that the Punjab government has followed the brutal examples of Musharraf dictatorship. Opposition also staged walkout from the House.
Addressing the House, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that no other decision had been taken except removing barricades outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariat. He said that the dreams of those politically unemployed would not come true.
Opposition also staged protest on the stairs of the Assembly building and shouted slogans against Punjab government.
