Six army soldiers were martyred on Monday in a mine blast in Ghulam Khan area of North Waziristan, a private news channel reported.

The soldiers were on a patrol when the blast occurred.

This is the first event of loss of lives of Pakistani soldiers since Operation Zarb-e-Azb, an offensive announced by Pakistani government late on Sunday.

The offensive was announced, shortly after airstrikes killed at least 105 people including insurgents linked to the airport raid, and jets and helicopter gunships continued to pound the region over the weekend.

The military announced it would wage “a comprehensive operation against foreign and local terrorists who are hiding in sanctuaries in North Waziristan”.
