Dwellers of Habib Colony, adjacent areas flay CDA for dumping, burning garbage in Sector I-12
The dwellers of Habib Colony, Allahabad and Westridge-II & III have flayed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for dumping and burning of garbage in Sector I-12, saying stench and smoke rising from the landfill was spreading respiratory, abdominal and other kinds of environmental diseases in their areas.
The residents said that the CDA is dumping wastes and garbage in Sector I-12 without caring about the health of the citizens living across the road. They said that no doubt the civic authority is responsible to facilitate the citizens of the capital but it should also think about the residents of the adjacent areas as they were human too.
The residents said that they had been listening for quite long time that the CDA and Rawalpindi administrations would set up power generation plant using garbage but no practical steps have been taken that would have checked this type of pollution in the twin cities. They said precious resources are being wasted on projects that could be delayed but those affecting the daily lives of the people like the dumping of garbage or sewerage lines that are choked up are being totally ignored.
People have appealed to the premier and Punjab chief minister that while they were impressed by the Turkish model of development, they should also get assistance from the brotherly country to set up a energy generation plant from garbage of the twin cities and relieve them of this health hazard.
Earlier on Friday, the residents held a protest demonstration against the damaging practice of the CDA and blocked IJP Road, resulting in long queues of vehicles. They were holding placards, inscribed with slogans against the CDA.
The residents demanded the CDA chairman to immediately order an end to the dumping of wastes and garbage in Sector I-12.
