We encourage dialogue between India, Pakistan: US

Welcoming the discussion held between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, the US has said that dialogue between the two neighbours is a positive step, adding that the US is supportive of such efforts.

Speaking to reporters, US State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said, “We encourage dialogue between India and Pakistan. We feel that it is a positive step. There have been some steps in recent weeks that we’ve been encouraged by. We believe dialogue is an important step in the process between India and Pakistan.”

Psaki was replying to a question about the letter written by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, expressing desire to work in harmony for the resolution of disputes between the two countries.

Regarding the recent Karachi airport attack, Psaki said that the US has offered forensics and investigative assistance to the Pakistani authorities concerned.

She said that Pakistan had not yet responded to the offer but “it remains on the table”.
