Musharraf summoned on July 1 in Ghazi Murder Case

A local court in Islamabad resumed hearing of the murder case of former prayer leader of Lal Masjid, Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, and rejected the exemption plea filed by the accused General (r) Pervez Musharraf from Thursday’s hearing, summoning him on July 1.

The court in its ruling ordered Musharraf on July 1 otherwise action will be taken against his guarantors. The court also summoned guarantors of the former president.

Additional Session Judge Wajid Ali Durrani heard Gahzi Abdul Rashid’s murder case. Two guarantors of the former president appeared before the court.

The court had summoned former president and accused in the case in Thursday’s hearing and had granted exemption in the last hearing.

The counsel of Musharraf, Maj (r) Akhtar Shah informed the court that doctors treating his client have strictly forbidden him from traveling.

The counsel also presented Musharraf’s medical report in the court on which the prosecutor and applicant’s lawyer raised objections.

The one-page medical report by Dr Imtiaz says that Musharraf is suffering from severe back pain and he has been advised to avoid travel and needs complete rest.

Raising objections over the medical report, counsel of the petitioner took the stance that this was just a prescription by the doctor and not a medical report.

Musharraf’s lawyer Shah said that the medical reports showed that the final challan has been prepared but its copy has not been prepared so far.

Upon this, Judge Wajid Ali Durrani remarked that the police have not yet submitted the final challan to the court.

Shah said Musharraf had been declared innocent as per the challan. He said if the accused was declared innocent then there seems no justification that he should appear in the court.

Shah further said that despite all this, Musharraf was ready to appear in the court but he needed tight security on this occasion. He said the former president will appear in the court when his doctors will permit him.
