At least seven burned bodies of people who were holed up in the cold storage of Karachi airport, were taken out in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to the rescue officials, all the bodies are beyond recognition.
According to a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesman, Airport Security Force (ASF) official Muhammad Jumman is still missing.
Jinnah hospital’s Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) said the victims were identified as Inayatullah, Nabil Ahmed, Faizan Ahmed, Fareedullah, Farhanul Haq, Sultan and Saifur Rehman.
DNA tests were conducted to identify the bodies.
It should be mentioned here that the rescue operation lasted for atleast 28 hours.
The rescue work progressed very slowly owing to the immensely heated environment at the cold storage and potential threat of fire eruption at any given moment.
The rescue workers recovered the bodies after they broke the fourth wall of the cold storage.
The fire-fighting operation was cautiously carried out as the cold storage building is in a dilapidated state and may fall down at any moment.
It should be borne in mind that all these seven people took refuge in the cold storage after armed men launched a full-fledged assault on the airport late on Sunday night.
Fire-extinguishing operation is still in progress at the warehouse and the cold storage of Karachi airport.
