A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban says the group was behind the five-hour assault on the international airport in Karachi that killed 18 people.

Shahidullah Shahid, the spokesman for Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, said in a statement Monday that the insurgents carried out the attack at the Jinnah International Airport.

Shahid says the attack was in “revenge for the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud,” the Taliban chief who died in a drone strike last November, and warned of more attacks.

The claim comes weeks the government-led peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban floundered.

At least 28 people were killed, including 10 militants in a 6-hour military operation when heavily-armed militants launched an attack on Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night.

Eight Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel were injured while one Rangers man was martyred in the attack.

18 victims, including the security troops and four airport workers have been identified by families.
Four others were also reported to be injured.

  1. what has emu khan to say now about his terrorist brothers ? – when will you have your "tsunami" condemning these scum of the earth?

  2. First and foremost, our heart and prayers go out to those who lost their lives in this heinous act of terror. It is only safe to say that the threat of terrorism continues to loom over the nation, and the terrorists remain focused on sending the country into chaos and frenzy. These acts of terror signify the importance of staying unified against those who are working against our peace objectives in the region. We commend the Pakistani authorities on fearlessly countering this attack on the airport. They showed great courage and bravery in taking back the control of the situation. We have always emphasized Pakistan’s importance in the region, and it is our wish and desire to see peace prevail throughout the nation. We will continue to work closely with the government of Pakistan, and remain confident of succeeding in our peace objectives in the region through shared cooperation.

    • whilst the govt of pakistan is making every effort to "crack" this puzzle of terrorism, inexperienced politicians like imran khan seem to be putting obstacles in the govt's way and also diverting attention from the real issues the country is facing – why? because he failed to be elected to the highest office in the country – his dream shattered. His only contribution is spreading unrest by his "tsunamis"and canvassing for the taliban terrorists to be allowed to open an office on pakistani soil. One cannot blame him, because that's about all the experience he has in politics.politics is about issues, to imran it is about attacking personalities
