SHO suspended for torturing press photographer

Sarwar Road police Station House Office (SHO) Imran Qamar was suspended for attacking a private newspaper’s photographer on Saturday.

As per media reports, the SHO along with other policemen manhandled a private newspaper’s reporter when he was covering an event at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to submit report at earliest.

The chief minister has ordered strict action against those involved in the incident.

Zulfiqar Shah, the photographer, said that there were fifteen police officers including the SHO who attacked him with sticks. He said he was kept hostage for three hours and threatened by the police.

SHO Imran Qamar claimed that he is not afraid of the chief minister or the IG, the photographer said.

On the other hand, Photo Journalists Association has demanded from the authorities to remove Sarwar Road SHO from his post.
