Illegal vehicles in Peshawar

A few months ago, Multan traffic police in partnership with tax authorities, conducted a very successful operation against illegal vehicles in Multan. The operation not only resulted in increasing the tax collection from that area, but it also helped reduce the traffic on the roads and improved safety on the roads.

These days Peshawar is also facing traffic problems. On closer inspection, one notices that every 3 out of 5 cars/motorcycles plying the roads in Peshawar either have no registration or are still using the obsolete old vehicle registration plates. These vehicles normally carry numbers of Sindh and Punjab areas which the local traffic police cannot verify, and therefore they are able to use their vehicles without paying any taxes.

If the traffic police and tax authorities manage a system where all the vehicles number plates are checked quickly, then that will not only help reduce the traffic in Peshawar, but it will also increase tax collection from vehicles in Peshawar. Since some of these vehicles are used in criminal activities, removal of such vehicles from the roads will also reduce the criminal activities associated with them.
