Ashiqullah, a notorious militant commander associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was shot dead on Thursday by unidentified men in his village located in North WaziristanAgency’s Mirali area.
Reports from Mirali revealed that a group of armed men opened fire against Ashiqullah near his house in Khazima village, killing him on the spot. The assailants managed to escape.
Ashiqullah was associated with the TTP’s Shehryar Mehsud group and was leading a sub-group preparing and training suicide bombers. He was stated to be a relative of Qari Hussain.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the assassination but tribal sources termed his killing to be a part of clashes between rival militant groups.
Meanwhile, displacement from Mirali area intensified on Thursday morning when the administration relaxed curfew hours till evening.
Hundreds of tribal families have abandoned their houses and proceeded with their belongings to towards the adjacent Bannu city and its surrounding areas.
Reports reveal that various displaced people arriving in Bannu are proceeding towards Peshawar whereas some are travelling to various cities and towns of Punjab.
