The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against former Central Investigation Agency’s (CIA) station chief Jonathan Banks for his involvement in 2009 drone strike that killed family members of a Pakistani tribesman, a private news channel reported.

Malik Abdul Karim Khan, a tribesman from Mir Ali, had filed a petition in the IHC claiming that drone attacks kill innocent people in Pakistan.

Khan, in his petition, had held ex CIA station chief Jonathan Banks responsible for the killings of his son and brother in a drone strike in Waziristan in December 2009 and called for charging Banks with murder.

Earlier, the tribesman publicised his case with a $500m civil law suit that named Banks, CIA director Leon Panetta and the US defence secretary, Robert Gates, as respondents.

Banks left Pakistan when Khan disclosed his name in an FIR application. His lawyer claimed that he got the CIA station chief’s name, which is otherwise kept secret, from a Pakistani journalist.

  1. What a waste of time and effort…individual people cannot be sued for national policies…the USA was fighting the Taliban terrorists who lived in Waziristan…unfortunately in war, sometimes innocent people are killed…he should be blaming the TTP for turning NWA into an armed camp of terrorists…
