Rs 555.739m earmarked for IT, telecom schemes

The federal government has allocated Rs 555.739 million for on-going and new schemes of information technology (IT) and telecom sector in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for fiscal year 2014-15.

The amount has been allocated to execute 18 new and on-going schemes, said a PSDP document issued on Tuesday.

Of the total, Rs 434.739 million has been earmarked for ongoing projects and Rs 121 million for three new schemes. The major new schemes include e-governance programme of the government which will ensure transparency. An amount of Rs 100 million has been allocated for this scheme.

Another new scheme is construction of cross-border optical fiber cable system between China and Pakistan for international connectivity of voice and data traffic for which Rs 20 million has been earmarked.
