Karachi commissioner orders removal of dangerous hoardings

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has directed the officials concerned to remove all the billboards which may threaten the life and property of the people before monsoon rains.

He was presiding over a meeting at his office on Tuesday regarding billboards in the city on the directive of Sindh chief minister. The commissioner directed the officials concerned to ensure that all the hoardings were made and displaed as per the requirement of the law. Administrator DMC South Afzal Zaidi, Director Local Tax KMC Abdul Rashid, Additional Director Local Tax KMC Mirza Asif Baig and other officials attended the meeting.

The commissioner said in case of any life and property losses due to dangerous billboards, the department which gives permission for such a hoarding will be responsible.

Keeping in view public complaints, he further instructed that the billboards having objectionable pictures and other material and those which were causing traffic accidents should be removed. He also asked that trees should not be cut for erecting hoardings. He also ordered the removal of six hoardings at AT Naqvi Chowrangi, 26th Street, identified by the business community.
