*CM announces grant of Rs 2 billion for new campus of KEMU in Muridke
Healthcare is among the top priorities of the government and the Punjab government is providing maximum resources for the provision of best treatment facilities to the masses, said Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz while addressing the annual convocation of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) on Tuesday.
He said that doctors are associated with a sacred profession and their oath of service to ailing humanity demands that they should spare no effort in the treatment of patients.
He said that doctors should work as hard for up holding their oath as they did for obtaining a MBBS degree so that medical needs of the masses could be fulfilled.
He said that doctors should abide by their code of conduct and serve the ailing humanity without any discrimination of caste, colour and creed and rehabilitate rural and basic health centres as well. He said that just as doctors have problems, similarly the patients have their hardships.
The CM congratulated the new graduates and said that they are now stepping into practical field and like their parents and teachers the people of the province also have high expectations of them that they will play a vigorous role for the improvement of the healthcare system. He said that participation in the annual convocation of the KEMU is an honour for him as this institution has been producing a number of prominent doctors for decades who are serving ailing humanity in Pakistan as well as abroad in a commendable manner.
He said that the KEMU is also rendering invaluable services for the promotion of medical education and research in this sector.
The CM said that the Punjab government has provided 120 acres of land for setting up new campus of the KEMU in Muridke. He announced a grant of two billion rupees for the construction of the campus and said that maximum resources will be provided for the uplift of health sector. He said that the common man has as much right over modern treatment facilities as judges, generals, politicians, ministers, police officers and elite.
He said that doctors should also serve at rural and basic health centres as well as tehsil and district headquarters hospitals. He said that doctors should go to far-flung and backward areas with the same spirit as they show in going abroad for proving their talent. He said that it is the only way through which Pakistan can regain its lost status in the comity of nations.
Shahbaz said that the most modern Tayyip Erdogan Hospital built by Turk government in district Muzaffargarh will be completely outsourced.
Earlier, KEMU Vice Chancellor Dr Faisal Masood in his address of welcome highlighted the academic activities of the institution. He said that solid measures are also being taken for improving the standard of education of the university.
He said that investment in education sector is the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Punjab government has provided a large piece of land in Muridke for setting up new campus of the KEMU.
The Chief Minister also awarded gold medals to position-holder doctors.
