Two officers of Rapid Response Force were injured in a firing incident near Lal Masjid in the jurisdiction of Aabpara police station in Islamabad on Tuesday.
According to SHO Aabpara police station, unidentified assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on a police mobile, wounding two Elite Force officers, Waqar Aslam and Kalimullah, who were patrolling the area.
The wounded officers were taken to PolyclinicHospital for treatment. The armed attackers managed to flee the scene after the attack.
Around 200 officers were on a routine patrol when the incident occurred.
The Elite Force and Rangers had started patrolling in the federal capital last week on the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar.
On the other hand, Islamabad police spokesman said that a bullet was accidentally fired by Elite Force officer Kalimullah, which injured him and another officer, Waqar Aslam. He said the bullet hit Waqar in abdomen after injuring Kalim’s hand.
He said that of getting information, police teams shifted the officers to PolyclinicHospital, where acting Inspector General Khalid Khattak, AIG (Operations) Salman Azam Tamuri and other senior police officers inquired about their health.
The condition of the injured officers is out of danger, he said, adding
Kalimullah belongs to Khanewal while Waqar is resident of Gujrat.
