PM outlines his vision for South Asian peace

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the SAARC process and outlined his vision for peace and prosperity in South Asia which was based on the economic revival of the region.

He was talking to SAARC Secretary General Arjun Bahadur Thapa in Islamabad.

Nawaz said he would like to see SAARC develop into a vibrant regional organisation along the lines of the EU, GCC and ASEAN and focus on economic regional integration, energy cooperation and connectivity.

On the occasion, Thapa praised the PM’s vision for SAARC and South Asia at large. He briefed Nawaz on the upcoming 18th SAARC summit scheduled to take place in November 2014 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

He said that the Prime Minister’s views about regional connectivity and economic integration would be invaluable in tailoring the summit’s agenda.

During his stay in Islamabad, the secretary general also called on Advisor to PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

  1. Nice article. But unlike ASEAN or EU, SAARC doesn't even have a common Anthem yet! However, there is hope that an official Anthem for SAARC will be adopted in Nov. 2014.
