- Official says education department will make it compulsory for students to know meanings of verses of national anthem
The Punjab Education Department has decided to make students aware of teachings of the national anthem verses to rebuild healthy national social fabric, declaring it a compulsory part of their regular education, said a senior official.
“The daily traits should reflect what is spoken by one while reciting the national anthem is the need of the hour to effectively deal with the worldly evils,” said Executive District Officer (EDO-Education) Qazi Zahoorul Haq while addressing a function of “Azm-e-Aali Shaan” programme held under the aegis of “Qaumi Tarana Foundation” (National Anthem Foundation) on Sunday.
Accordingly, he said, the education department is going to make it compulsory to make the students fully aware of the meanings of verses of national anthem and required them to act on its teachings in its letter and spirit.
“By reciting our national anthem, we actually pay thanks to God but it is not complete without adopting the teachings of anthem which translate true Islamic values,” he added.
He said the programme would help in character building of the students.
Other speakers stressed upon the public opinion makers, including teachers and parents, to help mend wrong and un-Islamic social attitudes towards dealing each others and adopt true Islamic social values to make the society peaceful and prosperous as per the spirit of the national anthem.
Anjuman Faizul Islam’s Prof Dr Aziz Hashmi said that putting in practice the true message of the national anthem was the need of the hour as the society was loosing the true Islamic values.
“All influential segments of the society especially public opinion makers, including clerics, teachers, parents and intellectuals should come forward to shoulder their responsibilities with regard to eliminate falsehood, lie, deceit, dishonesty and other non-Islamic behaviours from the society,” he stressed.
He said the Qaumi Tarana Foundation has initiated the programme in the government and private schools and it was aimed at inculcating the Islamic social values in students in particular and in the society members in general.
He said that Hafeez Jalandhari, the writer of national anthem, wanted to see the enforcement of teachings in the society which he narrated through the anthem.
