An accountability court will indict former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf among 11 others accused in a case pertaining to his involvement in multi-billion-rupee corruption scandal of rental power projects (RPPs) on June 3.

All accused in the case, including Raja and former finance minister Shaukat Tareen, were to be charge-sheeted on previous hearing held on May 30, however, the court had adjourned the case proceeding until June 3 over non-appearance of the accused.

Judge Muhammad Bashir had heard the graft case in Peran Ghaib and Sahiwal Rental Power Projects on Friday.

Ex-secretary establishment Ismaeel Qureshi and Tareen filed the plea for their acquittal which delayed indictment against the main accused.

Ashraf, who is also a PPP leader, had been under investigation for his role in granting rental power projects as a water and power minister in the cabinet of ex-PM Yousuf Raza Gilani.

In March 2012, the Supreme Court declared all such projects unlawful and ordered investigation against the officials, including Raja.

Former Water and Power Ministry secretary and additional secretary, former Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) chairman, MD and DG are also accused in the case.
