Unidentified armed men kidnapped Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) backed member of Punjab Assembly Rana Jamil Hassan Friday night while he was on his way to Islamabad.
According to Jamil’s brother Rana Wakeel Hassan, MPA Rana Jamil along with his wife had been away to attend the funeral of a close relative and was on his way back to Islamabad when unidentified armed men abducted them near Sial roundabout at Pindi Bhattian Interchange.
The kidnappers blindfolded the couple and took them away to an undisclosed location, however, they freed Rana Jamil’s wife in Rawalpindi with a message to arrange Rs 50 million as ransom. They have also threatened the MPA’s family of dire consequences in case the payment is not made to the group within two days’ time.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has sought report from Punjab inspector general, instructing him to undertake all the possible steps for his release.
