3 9E gas turbines to add 300 MW to national grid

Three 9E gas turbines have been installed to add 300 MW to the national grid at newly-established Nandipur Power Project which will be adding 425 MW in total to the national grid. According to details, the GE supplied and installed 3 9E gas turbines at Nandipur Power Project which would add 425 MW to the national grid with GE technologies generating 300 MW – enough to power almost 300,000 homes.

Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (DECL) signed a contract with GE for the supply and installation of equipment and technical advisory services for Nandipur Power Project. The turbines were installed in 2013 and the inauguration marks the synchronization of the first unit to the national grid, which will supply 100 MW.

Sarim Sheikh, President and CEO of GE Pakistan, said: “The inauguration of the Nandipur Power Plant will play an integral role in addressing the energy shortage that Pakistan currently faces. GE continues to work closely with the government to develop infrastructure projects that can fit Pakistan’s energy initiatives and strategies, while contributing to economic growth. We are grateful to DECL for trusting GE to provide them with advanced technologies for this vital project.”

GE 9E gas turbines installed at Nandipur offer fuel flexibility to burn a wide range of fuels for lower operating costs and better efficiency. They also conform to guidelines set by the World Bank relating to nitrous oxide emissions.

Together, the new installation at the Guddu Power Complex, Uch-II and Nandipur will add more than 1.5 GW to Pakistan’s national grid. GE technologies installed at these three facilities will generate more than 1.1 GW, helping the country to meet critical energy needs, which are estimated to be growing at 8% per annum.

In the 1960s, GE was amongst the first companies to install steam and gas turbines in Pakistan and GE-built technologies generate over 25 per cent of the country’s electricity today. GE continues to play a vital role in the development of key energy and infrastructure projects in Pakistan through its advanced innovations and technologies in power generation, oil & gas, energy management, aviation, transportation and healthcare businesses.
