PNHA holds anti-smoking walk

The Pakistan National Hearts Association (PNHA) on Saturday organised a walk in connection with World Anti-Tobacco Day to educate people regarding health hazards of tobacco.

The walk was attended among others by Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qayyum, DSP (Traffic) Shahid Yousaf, PNHA Director Operations Sanaullah and a large number of PANHA members and citizens.

Addressing the participants, Sanaullah said that tobacco and sheesha smoking were injurious to health as they cause cancer, heart diseases and blood pressure problem.

He said the objective of observing World No Tobacco Day is to reduce tobacco consumption which can lead to deadly diseases like cancer.

The day primarily focuses on encouraging users to refrain from tobacco consumption and its related products for a period of at least 24 hours so that they could be prepared to stop tobacco consumption which is in their own interest.

Other speakers said the aim of the day is to draw public and the government attention towards the need to take measures to prevent tobacco consumption which contaminates the air.

“So, if your dream is to live in a pollution-free environment, then anti-tobacco day is the right time to express your support to help create a safe and healthy environment for future generations.”

Smoking does many irreparable and irreversible disorders in the body and tends to make the body weak from inside, they said.
