Measles vaccine causes trouble in Karak

At least six children of a private school fell unconscious and were shifted to a hospital after being administered measles’ vaccine in Karak district on Thursday.

According to sources in Karak DHQ, a team of health officials administered measles’ vaccine to students in a private school after which the children felt dizzy and were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.

Earlier on Wednesday, three children including two-year-old Mazhar, a resident of Shabqadar, Charsadda, two-year-old Hilal of Mandrakhel area and two-year-old Rida of the same village had died in Peshawar Hospital after they were administered vaccine.

The parents now seemed reluctant to administer measles’ vaccine to their children after such cases have been reported in Swat, Charsadda, Kohat, Peshawar and now in Karak.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on May 19 had launched a two-week campaign to vaccinate 9.6 million children against measles in the province. The provincial government has launched an enquiry to find out real cause behind occurrence of such incidents.
