Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Shireen Mazari Thursday expressed concerns over the way the Punjab government and legislators were allegedly propagating a culture of violence across the province.
Mazari said that it had taken the provincial government three days to take note of the killing of a woman, Farzana Perveen, outside a courtroom. She said the police by their inaction against the murderers stand complicit in this murder. The fact that the guilty simply walked away without being arrested raises questions on the Punjab Police, she added.
Mazari regretted that the Punjab chief minister had merely asked for a report on the case while the murderers roam free and openly express no regret over their crime.
The PTI information secretary cited several other crimes which were being committed in the province ranging from rape to acid throwing. More recently a farmer was also reportedly killed with impunity by Bilal Khar.
Instead of pushing for a halt to such crimes, especially against the poor and women, police are supportive of such crimes either actively abetting the guilty or remaining inactive in proceeding against them, Mazari alleged.
“As for the Punjab PML-N legislators, they are actively propagating a culture of violence by using physical violence. They slap anyone who disagrees with them even if it is a doctor or a fellow MPA from another party,” she said.
