Join hands to protect working women

MNA Waseem Hussain on Friday said that only close coordination between civil society organisations and government departments, including police and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee, could ensure protect women against harassment.

He was speaking as chief guest at ‘Awareness Campaign’ programme organised by Women Complaint Cell Sindh in collaboration with the and Aurat Foundation.

Waseem said that the success of any human and women rights and development institution mainly depended on continued flow of funds, availability of relevant infrastructure, trained staffs and monitoring.

The women development department would not only revamp women crisis centres, but would also ensure their efficient performance with close coordination with concerned departments, police and NGOs and civil society organisations.

He said that out of 52 percentages of women population of the country, majority of working women has been facing harassment at their workplace and The Protection against Harassment of women at the work place Act 2010 is totally meant for them and called upon all stakeholders to ensure its implementation.

The In-charge/Psychologist at Women Development Department (WDD) Syeda Quratul Ain Shah emphasized the importance of legislation for the economic and social protection of domestic workers rights and said that most domestic women workers are facing heinous violence, both physical and sexual by their employers, and are murdered.

She called upon the policy makers to ensure the rights of women of the country, as guaranteed by Islam, constitution and international charter.
