LAHORE-

Four suspected murderers of Farazan Parveen, who was stoned and beaten to death outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday, were arrested by the police on Friday.

The arrested suspects include Parveen’s uncle, two cousins and a man named Nasir.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has taken notice of the incident and has summoned a report from the Inspector General Police Punjab within 48 hours.

Farzana was beaten to death by her family members for marrying against the family’s wishes.

The family had filed an abduction case against her 45-year-old husband Muhammaed Iqbal.

She was attacked by a mob of more than a dozen relatives , including her father and brothers, outside LHC as she waited to deliver a statement in her husband’s defence and testify her marriage.

The police deputed at LHC was reported to stand by and watch as the attackers stoned the woman to death.

Her father surrendered to the police after the attack, admitting that he had killed his daughter for ‘honour’.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry and arrest of the culprits.

Following the PM’s orders, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting attended by Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police Khan Baig , Punjab Home Secretary Azam Suleman, and Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmad.

IG Punjab Baig presented an initial report on the incident.

The CM gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the IG to arrest the suspects immediately and condemned the brutal murder of Farzana Parveen. He has directed to hold the murder trial in an anti-terrorism court.

A high-level committee was also formed by CM Sharif to report to him the progress in the case on a daily basis.

He said that the occurrence of such an event in the presence of police was a matter of great shame.
The LHC has also taken notice of the event and has sought a report from the district and session judge.
