A few days before the government unveils the budget for fiscal year 2014-15, Information Minister Senator Pervez Rashid has said that the upcoming budget will be transparent.

“The money will be visible, therefore, we can be held accountable,” Rashid said during a press conference on Thursday.

The senator also spoke about the agreements signed in the 90’s which provided power companies sovereign guarantees by the government of Pakistan. “These agreements were not made by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government,” he said.

“These agreements are causing conflicts because if the government does not pay these power companies, these companies can take the government to court anywhere in the world based on these sovereign guarantees,” Rashid said, adding that this would diminish Pakistan’s status in the international community.

The minister also spoke about positive developments that have taken place under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government, particularly in telecommunication and banking sectors.

Earlier, addressing a seminar, Rashid said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will face defeat in 2019 elections too.

“Your actions will lead you to defeat in 2019,” he said. He said after being defeated in 2019, Khan will once again level allegations of rigging.

The minister said he wanted to see the media in Pakistan being strengthened. He said that if a television channel makes a mistake, shutting it down is not the solution.
