Education, a must to survive today’s world, is provided by private universities in the name of excellence and a lot of misapprehensions. I recently enrolled in a private university’s Sharah-e-Faisal Campus located adjacent to a reputed bank. The management of the university has directed us to bring in sponsorship of Rs50,000 for fashion show and job fair, and also to bring in a professional trainer/speaker for a workshop for which he/she will definitely charge a fee, which is also to be burdened upon the students.
Is it our responsibility to bring in such sponsorship and professional speaker/trainer despite already paying heavy fees to the university that now we have to do such things? Fashion shows are nothing but mere entertainment and have nothing to do with our development. Rather the university should be organising productive workshops/training activity such as time management, skill development, career consultations, etc. which are really going to help us in our career/future. If they still want to organise such events then it shouldn’t be the responsibility of students to bring in sponsorships I request the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to visit & review their system & their management-student co-ordination.
