Keep calm and show some tolerance: religious minister

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Tuesday stressed launching an awareness campaign to promote interfaith harmony among different segments of the society.

Talking to a three-member delegation of minorities headed by Archbishop of Lahore Sebastian, the minister said the campaign would help promoting tolerance in the society. The delegation sought minister’s help in retrieving the possession of churches from mafias.

Member of National Assembly Aasiya Nasir was also present in the meeting.

The minister said the government has doubled the minority’s welfare fund, scholarships to give them financial benefits.

A seventeen-member National Commission for Minorities was being constituted in country for resolving the problems of minorities. The commission includes six official and 11 non official members.

The ministry also proposed giving discretionary fund to Senators to ensure welfare of minorities. While the non-lapsable discretionary funds for MNAs would not be exterminated, he said.

The delegation appreciated the cooperation of minister saying he always extended help at every level.  A parliamentary group with Vatican City would be constituted for promoting religious harmony among the minorities.
