Court orders Capital IGP to register FIR against Shalimar SHO for detaining citizen illegally

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Islamabad inspector general (IG) to register a first information report (FIR) against the Shalimar police SHO and ASI for detaining a citizen.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said, “Performance of Islamabad police is the worst performance. Islamabad police is incompetent police of the world. Police officers come here to throw dust in the eyes of court. Police officers are all indulged in corruption and grabbing of their shares.”

Siddiqui said this while hearing illegal detention case of Muhammad Bashir on Wednesday.

Zahid Asif Chaudhry, counsel for the petitioner, appeared in the court and Bashir was also produced before the court.

Chaudhry told the court that the ASI and SHO of the Shalimar police station picked up the accused from his home and kept him in illegal detention. He also told the court that nothing was recovered from the accused nor the police had recorded matter of his arrest in the register. Police had registered a fabricated and baseless FIR and was deceiving the court through fake documents.

The judge inquired from the SHO if arrest of the accused has been registered in the police station and where is the register in which the arrest entry has been recorded? Was the accused issued a notice? The SHO and ASI could not reply. The counsel told the court that ASI Shaukat Abbasi has grabbed Rs 300,000 from the accused.
