The Supreme Court (SC) has barred punitive action against the employees of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and said their status should be maintained as per high court’s order.

The court also allowed Sethi to work as PCB chairman till the final decision of the court.

A three-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali issued these orders on Tuesday during the hearing of a contempt of court petition filed by employees of PCB against PCB Chairman Najam Sethi.

When the court asked Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry Counsel Asma Jahangir what she wanted to do with the employees, she said, “We have no objection over reinstatement of employees but its effects will not be good.”

Counsel for the employees, Ahmad Raza Kasuri took the plea that Sethi violated the high court’s orders by sacking the PCB employees, which constitutes contempt of court and called for contempt proceedings to be initiated against Sethi.

Jahangir told the court that PCB did not terminate the employees but the notifications issued by Ashraf were withdrawn following the SC orders.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for two weeks.
