Don’t politicise PM’s visit to India: Shah

Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Ahmed Shah said on Tuesday that the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to India should not be politicised.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament House, Shah lauded the PM’s decision to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Indian premier Narendra Modi.

He said the long standing issues between the two countries, including Kashmir and water disputes, can only be resolved after establishing a congenial environment.

The opposition leader said that unfortunately there are several countries which are against Pakistan-India friendship and called upon the nation to shun all conspiracies hatched to undermine Pakistan-India relations.

Shah said that the PM should go ahead and do what is best in the interest of Pakistan.

“Pakistan People’s Party has always supported democracy and rendered many sacrifices, and will continue to do so,” said Shah.

The opposition leader said that his party would never support any action to derail the country’s democratic set-up.

Responding to a question, the PPP leader urged media houses to avoid airing news which is incorrect or against the country’s interest.

He was of the view that gatherings by certain political parties could not affect the government unless these parties are backed by some undemocratic elements.
