ISLAMABAD-
A meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi was held on Tuesday at the Hyderabad House, a private news channel reported.
The historic first bilateral talks between the two premiers continued for 50 minutes and involved a discussion on resumption of bilateral dialogue and other matters of bilateral interest.
During the meeting, PM Nawaz said that both the countries share many traditional and cultural aspects and stressed the need to strengthen these bonds.
The premier said that the two countries had wasted time and resources in a race of arms.
According to Indian Media, Indian PM Modi put forward a five-point agenda for the meeting.
He demanded of the Pakistani premier to ensure that its territory is not used by terrorists for attacks in India.
Modi also demanded that the perpetrators behind Mumbai attacks should be held accountable by Pakistani authorities.
The two leaders also discussed to work on a mechanism to control terrorism in the region.
The officials accompanying PM Sharif were Advisor to the PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, and Pakistan High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit.
PM Nawaz is now in a meeting with former PM Attal Bihari Vajpayee. He will be meeting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee today as well.
The Pakistani premier is expected to address the media at 2pm.
Earlier on Tuesday, PM Sharif visited the Jamia Masjid in New Delhi. He was received by Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Imam e Masjid. PM Sharif offered prayers at the mosque.
He also made a visit to the Red Fort.
PM Modi announced his new cabinet on Tuesday morning; the first day of his tenure.
On Monday, PM Sharif attended the swear in ceremony of PM Modi as India’s 15th PM.
Before his departure from Pakistan, PM Sharif said that he was going to India with a message of peace.
